Offshore HPU system survey and remedial work

It is critical for offshore sub sea oil based systems to deliver clean and dry oil to the subsea valves, this maintains the valves and avoids costly intervention by dive boats and loss of production.

MT mechelec was asked to drain the oil, clean the tank and filter new oil into the supply and return tanks. The accumulators were de-pressurised and a full HPU survey was carried out, many remedial points were highlighted including pilot valves non operational, switches set at wrong set point and pumps not functional.

Additionally it was found that due to filter bowls being seized, filters had not been changed for years, these filters had by pass valves fitted allowing contaminated oil to travel subsea.
